Language

In recent years English has become much more used in Thailand and it is in general possible to manage throughout the country by communicating in English.

Most signage is likewise in bi-lingual Thai/English in the major cities and tourist destinations. Thai language is a phonetic language with five tones which can make it difficult to manage for visitors, since the meaning of a word can completely change due to the notation. This can create many situations, which the Thais find very funny but at times make it rather frustrating for Thai learners.

Thais are generally very friendly and it is recommended to approach all situations in Thailand with a smile and good humor. Where language difficulties arise it is important to keep patience and a cool temper.

Where access to INTERNET is available, there is an instant translation facility from English to Thai, which can come in handy for visitors;
